Well, we certainly woke up in a different humour this Feb 7th, compared to 2006. Mind you we were both a little tired (Jonathan has a cold and I was working) but this time last year, we were nervous and excited waking up in a hotel room near Dublin airport with 4 suitcases to live out of for the next few months.
Yes, it was this day last year that we said Au Revoir to Dublin and headed West to Canada. By the time we arrived at Dad&Jane's that evening we were exhausted, mentally & physically. The photos we took then are strange to look at now - funny how the mind plays tricks on you. Click here for photos. We were sitting in the kitchen in Campbell Drive, beer/wine in hand, thinking "What have we done?" yet neither of us saying it out loud. The tears came (me in the kitchen, Jonathan later in the bedroom!) and I am sure Dad, Jane and the boys thought they had two homeless, emotional wrecks on their hands.
Well, a year later, it's a different story. Dad, Jane, the boys & Amanda love coming 'out to the Country' and we know what we have done. We have taken a risk and are proud of ourselves for doing it.
So, now what? Well for starters, a celebration dinner at Inn on the Lake, a bottle of something bubbly - but that's only tonight! Things are so different this year - the garden has grass; Jonathan has a job; I am contracting and running my own Coaching practice; we have made friends; we know our way around the city and I even bump into people I know in the supermarket. These are all things we took for granted in Dublin, now we appreciate even more. (And we have been back to Dublin). Where did the year go?
So, next time you find yourself with a glass of something in your hand, please raise your glasses and if you feel like it, toast us for doing it and yourselves, because if you are reading this, it means you care and have kept in touch (in some way or another) and we really do appreciate it.
Big question now is: Do I continue the blog or has it served its purpose? I'll have to think about that over a glass of Veuve Clicquot, methinks!!!

ReplyDeleteHi E + J from me ............who promised to keep more in touch. I think 2006 was my worst year ever keeping in contact with people. I am normally the one always in touch, don't know if it is the fact I have a teenager wanting every minute of my attention, my son getting bigger and bolder or Bo just being Bo, never sits easy and always 100 things to do and plan. I have downloaded skype E, so hook up with me and lets chat. We are off to Denmark on Fri for 10 days so I will ring you when I get back and work out the skype with you. I chatted to Michelle the other day and we were like 2 kids waving at each other and talking through Skype. So I am going to head oof to bed now, love to J and congratulations on surviving the 1st year. I promise I will get there..... xx Dee....and ps keep up the blog, great fun reading it!
