No offence to the Scots (Congrats on winning the bid for the 2012 Commonwealth Games) or to Cappa, but what is the big deal about Scotch whiskey? I usually only drink it once a year as it (Scotch & Ginger) was my grandfather's drink and this year is no exception. Maybe it's the fact that I had no Ginger and had to use Soda instead (Julie would not be impressed at me adding anything to any whiskey. I did try not to, but couldn't).
Remembrance Day in the Maritimes is a big deal - and as it is a day after Cappa's anniversary, I thought I would incorporate the R Day celebrations into a new pilgrimage (see last year's entry for Nov 10th). So, for the the first time since we came to Canada I went to a Catholic Mass! I had no idea how much I missed old stone churches - new church halls do not have the same feel at all. Anyways, I went and I am glad and I may just go back again!
But what about Irish vs Scotch question. My vote definitely goes to the Irish (Jameson, Bushmills, Power's, Paddy's) - sorry Cappa but I'd take any of them over a Scotch. But I'll still have one a year. "Fill yer boots" as they say here.

I well remember your Cappa and I liked him! I know what you mean about ancient churches. I'm hoping to attend a Christmas Eve service in Old Town Geneva.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carla! C'mas Eve in Old Town Geneva sounds magical - just like Christmas should be :)
ReplyDeleteYour brother-in-law is a Scotch drinker. Having started out with whisky of the Bushmills and Black Bush variety, he gradually came to appreciate the more varied palette offered by the Scottish. . . if it weren't for Glenfiddich he might have been alright ; )
ReplyDeleteCappa was also fond of Southern Comfort.
ReplyDeleteAnd there is no comparison between Scotch and Soda and Scotch and Ginger.
I am surprised at you – don’t you remember that you toast Sodas and have them with your boiled egg,
