The night before
On the eve of my 40th birthday I take a few minutes – just to reflect and ponder the day and the last 40-odd years. Something is different this year, not just being in a different country and away from my friends and family. . . . something else, something I can’t quite put my finger on. Like most people I had a difficulty with the idea of turning 40 – it sounds so old! But recently my perspective has changed – friends of mine have reached the same milestone and swear it’s the best thing ever. I have been told ‘Life begins at 40’ and all the other clichés we all know. But funny thing is, I am starting to believe it – maybe it’s just the idea that maybe, finally I am in control of my life, my destiny. Or maybe it’s just because we moved away from Dublin, stepped out of out comfort zone, expanded our horizons – right now, I know something is different, something had changed – I am just not sure what it is. Whatever it is, it is good & positive. Maybe ‘Life’ does begin at 40. I’ll let you know over the next few weeks. . . .
