Hurricane Alberto

Last year we were in the Florida Keys for our honeymoon - not long before Hurricane Season. Apart from numerous warning signs spotted in the Keys and photos that Dad sent me of Hurricane Juan a few years ago, (and of course we know of Katrina) I have had little experience of these storms. Well that's all changing.
Have you heard of Alberto - the first tropical storm of 2006? Apparently it's now an ex-tropical storm which gained a new lease of life as it approached the Nova Scotia coast. Although we are a few miles inland we are feeling the brunt of 90km/h winds and getting alot of the 40-60mm rain. I was sitting in the living room watching the trees in the front yard swaying and bending (looks like they are trying to touch their toes) when the doorbell rang. One of our neighbours, Patricia, in full wet gear, came across to tell us that we may want to move the cars. . . . move the cars? Why? Seems while I watching tree yoga in the front yard, a few trees in the side weren't quite so supple. Up out of the ground - roots and all!!! But luckily we now have a garage so we moved the cars to safety but I guess we will have to wait it out till morning to see how much damage has been done.
Rumour has it, this year is going to be a bad one for Hurricanes - the irony of it is we are supposed to have great sunny, hot weather this weekend. And we thought the weather in Ireland was changeable.

Speaking of Alberto - Happy Father's Day to Albert (Jonathan's Dad); to my own Dad and to my Uncle Noel who will be with us on Father's Day - and to all the other Dads out there. Have a great day on Sunday :)
