Busy week

Well we survived the weather on Thursday night - which is more than can be said for some of the trees - see pictures. Woke up to a beautiful day on Thursday (the calm after the storm?!) and the weather has been great ever since.

We had only planted 500 (yes five hundred) or so trees on Tuesday night all along the property line and it was bad enough that trees came down but worse was they came down on the little ones just planted. Jonathan managed to acquire 1000 trees from the Forestry commission - how & why is another story! On closer inspection it looks like most of the baby trees survived but we now have a dead spruce resting on a very much live birch tree. So, there will be some manoeuvring tomorrow involving ropes, the Jeep and as many helping hands as we can find. Watch this space.

Jonathan had to visit our GP - he reckoned something bit him on his index finger of his right hand while planting the trees on Weds night. By Thursday morning his hand had swelled up to twice it's normal size. You know how big his hands are so imagine a boxing glove and you will have an idea of what it was like. Antibiotics and antihistamines were prescribed and finally today the swelling was just about down - enough to see a very angry bite mark on his wrist which we now think is the culprit.

The garage is just about finished - more photos uploaded, check them out.

The United Nations summit has started here in Fall River - the first of our international array of guests arrived in last night (Uncle Noel, all the way from Vancouver). The weather was so good today we went out on the boat (bit of a family affair, even Alfie & Doug came out to play). Took Noel for a tour of the harbour, Halifax Waterfront and out to Wreck Cove. All that fresh air has a way of knocking you out - we'll all sleep well tonight. And tomorrow is supposed to be great too. Summer is back.
