Venue: Metro Centre, Halifax
Occasion: Saint Mary's University Convocation (Graduation)

All those years of hard work finally paid off as Doug collected his BA (English, 1st class Honours), watched from the balcony by hundreds of family & friends, in particular his sister (me) & his girlfriend, Amanda, while Dr Seaman (proud Dad, seated on the left, 3rd row from back) watched from the on-stage Gallery reserved for faculty & invited guests.
There were the usual speeches & introductions; awards & presentations; cheers & applause for the Class of 2006. There were BA’s, MA’s, MSc's & a lone PhD for a bit of colour. And they sure were colourful, not just the maroon & white hoods of the BA’s but also the array of flags that adorned the back of the stage, not to mention the colours of the faculty that filed in ahead of the graduates.
After all the presentations, it was time for photos and exchanging congrats with fellow students, get the piece of paper framed; more photos; then time to eat. Lunch at Trinity (one of my favourite places to eat in Halifax)with the proud parents, Dad & Jane and Doug's girlfriend Amanda; followed by more photos and finally Doug got to take off the garb!! And enjoy a hard-earned beer at last!
After lunch, time for bit of a rest, then it was back to the city for dinner at The Great Wall with Dad, Jane, Marie, Margot, Jonathan, myself, Amanda, Alfie & of course the guest-of-honour (Doug) too. The best way to do Chinese is with a big bunch of people because you get to order loads of different dishes and share them all. No Sweet & Sour Chicken balls this time – Egg Rolls, Mu Shu Pork, Lemon Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, Almond Chicken, one with Scallops and plenty more that I can’t remember. And it was all delicious – will go back there for the food. After that the ‘young ones’ headed off to party leaving us to linger on street corners as we contemplated the plans for the long weekend.
Congratulations Doug & Well Done!
