Uncles & Aunties

It doesn't happen too often and it usually involves bribing them with the offer of good food. . . . . I am talking about the brothers coming out for a visit.

One of the reasons we moved to Halifax was to spend time with family I had hardly seen for 20-odd years. So when Doug& Amanda moved to Ottawa I was less than impressed. But it's only for a year or 2 they said - not that I had any influence on the matter.

We're into year 3 now and both of them are working and enjoying the capital city of Canada even if they are a bit homesick (I hear the homesick thing wears off after about 15 years!)

Thanks to a business trip, Amanda & Doug managed 2 trips home in September/October and en route back to the airport they were tempted to stop in for a Sunday Roast dinner. Even more surprising was that Alfie & Melissa came too - we've been trying to tempt Alfie out for months.

Pictured here is DJ with Uncle Alfie, Uncle Doug and respective girlfriends (honourary, if not official aunties) Melissa & Amanda. Why is that even though Alfie is closer and he sees more of him, it is Uncle Doug who gets an (almost) daily mention? And why does DJ refer to his Aunties as Unca?
