This year we have Mum back with us so she was charged with looking after the starters and dessert for Turkey dinner #2 (the first one was Sat night at Dad&Jane's). We had a delicious Beet soup in Mahone Bay recently and Susie offered a couple of recipes so we could have it again. There is a story that goes with the making of the soup but Mum tells it better than I do - let's just say it involves a hand blender, walls/fridge/floor and a bit of cleaning up!!
A lot of hard work, stained fingers and a little hair-pulling perhaps resulted in an interesting starter - and Jonathan feeding DJ one spoon after another, never trying it himself!! Really Mum it was lovely, but maybe next year we'll opt for Butternut Squash soup instead ;)
We had an organic turkey this year with all the trimmings and we managed to leave room for dessert, which was delicious, Mum! Any ideas what to do with the leftovers from a 16-lb turkey?
BTW - What did the turkey say? Gobble, gobble, eat a cheeseburger. DJ's babysitter taught the kids that joke at daycare and all weekend he kept saying Eat a Cheeseburger - maybe you had to be there but it was funny!
