Annapolis is a real New England style holiday town, right on the Chesapeake Bay. So, not surprisingly it is full of tourists and boats of all shapes & sizes. And like any good holiday destination, it has plenty of pubs, bars & restaurants. We were there for a short week (6 days) and did our best to check out as many of the bars & restaurants we could manage. And it was great fun and totally relaxing, but the heat and humidity were hard to take! So, we had to go shopping too. We found the outlets and the boutiques and the souvenir shops and we shopped till we dropped.
Highlights? Apart from hanging out with Julie? There was the boat, Julie's 112-foot superyacht, the MARYLAND INDEPENDENCE which she lived on for a year or so, but is now disposing of. There was the shopping, the bars; Metropolitan is particularly trendy, the Irish bars were good too. There was Ego Alley where the beautiful people (and their boats of course) come in to play and I have to mention the beautiful scenery around that whole area.
For Jonathan, the highlight had to be Washington, D.C. We got the Metro into the Smithsonian stop. The Smithsonian Institute is a collection of 18 museums & galleries, plus a zoo, 10 of which are located on The National Mall between the Washington Monument and Capitol Hill. And it’s all FREE! You would need an entire week to see it all so we had a bite to eat and decided to visit the Natural History Museum first, we split up and I took a look at the Gemstones exhibition, including the Hope Diamond – WOW! Jonathan checked out the Dinosaurs and Julie went to Tectonics. Then we took in ‘Aliens of the Deep’ at the IMAX before venturing back outside to wander the Mall.
In between checking out the many monuments around the Mall and a great Irish bar called Fado near Chinatown, Jonathan found a few minutes to stop by Capitol Hill (The Whitehouse) for a chat with George W., as in Bush! Don’t believe me? Check out the photo below. He is still a tight-lipped about what they chatted about, though the words Top Secret and World Peace have popped up in despatches!

Thanks Julie, we had a great time and looking forward to seeing you again soon - 4 times in the last 12 months (including the trip to France last November for Julie's birthday) is pretty good going, we have set a high standard, now we have to keep it up.
Back to Halifax on Thursday night and Susie picked us up at the airport. She had flown in the night before for a friend's 40th party on the Saturday night. Unfortunately, we were delayed a few hours so we were all rather tired by the time we got back to our place at 1am. But we managed to hang out on Friday before we dropped Susie to the city to stay a couple of nights at Scott & Nancy's. We reconnected with Susie Sunday night and we all had dinner at Dad&Jane's - a rare enough gathering, all 4 Seaman siblings together. Of course I had to get a few photos for the Family album.
