Something in the Air

Schools are back, lawnmowers are on sale and the (Ice) Hockey season is just about to start, so I guess that means summer is over! Well, almost.

There was a chill in the air a few days ago, but Mother Nature must have had a change of heart - decided it was too early to turn on the cold yet. This weekend has been glorious, warm, sunny, blue skies etc just not as much of it as of late. The sun sets alot earlier as we approach the Autumn Equinox and by 5pm there is a noticeable cooling no matter how hot it gets during the day.

So, being the last official weekend of summer, we headed out to Laurie Park for a picnic. Sitting at a picnic bench on the edge of the lake, we watched people out boating, swimming, even a few sunbathers determined that summer isn't over yet. It's so peaceful out there all you can do is watch the trees turning (you will see from the photo below the trees literally are starting to change colour, an inch at a time), spot the grasshoppers even though they are camouflaged against the grass that is already drying out and turning yellow and listen to the Loons calling as they bob up and down on the lake with no particular place to go.

Autumn lasts for a few weeks at least here so we are looking forward to watching the changing colours as autumn ushers in the colder weather. Our first full winter in Canada and we don’t quite know what to expect. But there is plenty to enjoy here before we worry about that. As usual, we will keep you posted through the blog and photos.

In case you haven't heard, we have rebooked our flights back to Dublin in December (slight change of dates from original plan so we can stay a little longer), we are both looking forward to the trip 'back home' and are starting to make plans, so please do get in touch and we'll organise to meet up!
