Well if I had to use 3 words to describe Halifax they would be: COLD, Picturesque & (currently - very) White. As for the natives: Friendly, genuine & inquisitive.
We hit the road running as the expression goes - within 24 hours of landing we had seen our Bank Manager and organised visa cards, online banking etc
Of course we viewed the new house on the way in from the airport on Tuesday, but within 72 hours we had met with the Project Manager, the Electrician, the Security guy and the Kitchen company; applied for social Insurance numbers; looked at cars, kitchen appliances, chosen flooring & carpets and met with our Real Estate agents and the Construction company for a briefing to discover all that we still have to do. . . . .
So, you could say we have had an intense introduction to life in Halifax. What do we think? It's great, it is so easy to get things done here (it may help that we have contacts); the people are very friendly (just like home) and seem genuinely interested. Just about everyone we have met has 'welcomed' us to Canada and wished us well in our adventure, from the Immigration Officers to car dealers to shop assistants. Of course it hard to disguise the fact that we are not from here although most people have told me I don't really have an Irish accent ??? As for Jonathan, well the red hair is a giveaway and they love the accent.
So, first impressions have been very good - let's hope it remains so.

Hi guys, welcome to the Great White North! Remember, it's not all white - here in Vancouver, after a month of non-stop rain it's sunny and the almonds are in blossom with the cherries close behind. Come visit if you ever get lonely for a bit of the emerald look in winter!
