Out 'n a Boat

One of the things Nova Scotians get teased about is their pronunciation of certain words - like Out & About, often heard as Out in a Boat! For some reason, I find that quite funny - maybe because I was teased for so many years about my accent as a kid and now that I feel like am speaking a foreign language again (unless I am surrounded by Newfies) but less inclined to hide it or apologise for it now :)

Anyways we were out & about in a boat a couple of times this summer, courtesy of Dad & Jane and I have to say it is a wonderfully relaxing way to spend a day. After all, there is nothing to do but eat & drink while the Captain plots a course, sets the autopilot and a while later drops anchor. Nothing to it.

Unless of course the weather turns and the fog rolls in and you can't see your hand in front of your face. Yes, that did happen one day despite Alfie's warnings. But all mod cons on board including radar so we let Captain Andy do his thing and bring us back to port safe & sound.

And DJ loves Papa's boat - as can be seen here from the photos of him up on top deck
and down below trying on the Captain's hat- I think it will be a few years before he gets to wear that hat.

Maybe one of these days, we'll get a little run-around for the Lakes, but in the meantime, we'll crew for you anytime Dad!
