It really is a treat when a toddler says his/her first words. OK so he's been chatty for a while now - we have heard words like Mama, Dada, Nana, up, ball, snooo, Bob (as in the Builder), Pooh (Winnie the) and a few other monosyllabic words, along with an assortment of animal & mechanical noises. So when I heard the word apple as clear as a bell and with no prompting (other than trying to feed him one) I was chuffed, and found myself declaring that his first real word had been spoken.
His minder/babysitter was just saying last week that's it's a little sad when they grow up ie potty train, start talking a blue streak, because they aren't babies any more. We have been so lucky to get DJ so young that we did get the best 'baby' months and now as we enter the terrible twos, and recover from a weekend of toddler tummy, I am exhausted but excited at the same time . . . . every day brings something new!
