Winter Wonderland

Well the snow has finally arrived - more like the type of weather you would expect in Canada in January (recently it's been more like Spring in Ireland). As I was "working" in the city yesterday I had the pleasure of travelling to work with my DH (who doesn't believe in talking at that hour of the morning!)
It was cold and a little frosty on the way in but nothing to worry about. All morning, people were looking out the window, whispering about the storm that was on it's way and wondering how they would get home that evening.

Lunchtime (12 -1 in Halifax) came & went without a snowflake falling, but then someone flicked a switch. The window I was sitting at had a lovely view of Halifax Harbour until about 1.30, when the sky turned grey & heavy and visibility dropped to about 20 feet. The Waterfront disappeared and everything on the ground turned white. It's quite eerie to watch it turn like that! So the course finished a little early and Jonathan was able to leave work a little earlier than usual so he came downtown to pick me up. After sliding across the street and nearly ending up on my rear-end (I wasn't wearing snow-boots, I was dressed to impress in the office not to walk up a hill in the snow!!!), we sat in traffic for a bit (see the photo) before deciding to brave the hill! Well, long story short, we made it over the old bridge, out of the city and onto the highway and drove home a little slower than usual as the plows hadn't made it to the highways yet! Home by 5.30 (a little over an hour for a usual half hour drive isn't too bad) safe & sound to see the kids next door making a slide on the land between the houses! Oh to be young & innocent and have fun getting wet instead of arriving home tense because of the road conditions. As much as I love the snow, it does take some getting used to when driving in it.
