Thanksgiving Weekend

Did you know that the first and original Thanksgiving comes from Canada? Or that unlike the American tradition of remembering Pilgrims and settling in the New World, Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest?

Thanksgiving, also known as "Turkey Day" is celebrated on the first Monday of October in Canada, much earlier than the US (fourth Thursday in November). The significance of it is "A celebration of being thankful for what one has". We couldn't let it pass without a mention in the blog.

This year we are more conscious than ever of what we have to be thankful for and just like the early pioneers, we give Thanks for a successful journey (across the Atlantic) and for the beautiful home we have here. We also give thanks for the friends (new & old) and family we have here in Canada – in Halifax and on The West Coast; and of course our respective families in Ireland & US. To our family & friends - we say Thank-you & we miss you all and hope you will raise a glass for us on Monday (or any time over the weekend!).

We will be having Thanksgiving dinner at Dad&Jane’s on Sunday and a quiet dinner for two (at our local pub/hotel!) on Monday so expect to get a link to some more pictures! Cheers!
