JonnyB - A New Canadian

It's official !
All good things come to he who waits - now I wouldn't describe Jonathan as a patient person per se! When he wants something, he usually just makes it happen. So it was a bit of a surprise that he waited a little longer than he could have to process the paperwork to become Canadian. And he was a tad disappointed to finally get the invitation because it wasn't for the Canada Day ceremony.

However, it was held at Government House - for the first time in years - on account of the Queen's Jubilee. A pretty good trade-off. Beautiful building, bit of a crowd (18 other New Canadians, including Desmond, a 12-year old boy from Nigeria) and a few dignitaries.

With the Mounties, one of whom works in Young Tower too!
Even the speeches were bearable, and I was quite surprised at the number of them that started off with "When I first came to Canada". So many immigrants, Jonathan is in good company in a very elite club!

He was a little concerned that they took his PR card off him and told him he would have to wait a few days before applying for his (blue) passport. His main concern was what if he had to leave the country between Thursday & Tuesday!! Leaving would have been the least of his worries, it's the getting back in that would have been an issue :)

Canada Day will take on a whole new meaning now - but he'll never be allowed to forget his roots. The St Patrick's Day Party will still be at our house, don't you worry about that !
